The Five-Part Session Framework: Why Structure Protects Vulnerability
Caroline Wanjiku · August 2026 · 4 min read

When someone decides to step into a counselling room or join a corporate wellness workshop, they take a monumental risk. They are handing over guarded pieces of their story. If a facilitator merely opens an emotional wound and leaves the client exposed when the hour ends, harm is done.
That is why every Funguka engagement—whether individual therapy, a school forum, or a corporate boardroom session—is structured around our proven 5-part framework:
1. Open: Establishing an iron-clad perimeter of confidentiality, group norms, and physical safety.
2. Awareness: Demystifying symptoms. We normalize that rapid heartbeats, racing thoughts, or apathy are normal nervous system responses to abnormal stress.
3. Insight: Exploring the "why." We help participants connect their present reactions to underlying exhaustion, unprocessed loss, or impossible workplace burdens.
4. Tools: Every participant receives immediate, practical coping mechanics—whether a Stress First Aid buddy protocol, a cognitive reframing exercise, or a boundary script.
5. Close: The most critical phase. We deliberately down-regulate the nervous system, ensure psychological grounding, and confirm referral pathways before anyone steps out the door.
